Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Circuit Intermittent
What does this mean?
Code P0114 indicates the IAT sensor signal is fluctuating intermittently.
Disclaimer: This diagnostic code is part of the standard OBD2 system and can apply to Suzuki Vitara models manufactured from 1996 to 2026. However, please note that the presence of this specific code depends on your vehicle's exact engine configuration, options, and production year.
Common Causes
Faulty Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor
Damaged, chafed, or broken wiring harness
Corroded or loose electrical connector
Symptoms to Watch For
- Check Engine Light is illuminated
- Rough or unstable idle
- Engine surging or fluctuating RPM
How to Diagnose
Common Solutions
Repair or replace damaged wiring and/or the IAT sensor electrical connector. This is a very common fix for intermittent circuit codes. Use proper soldering techniques and heat shrink tubing for wire repairs, or replace the entire connector if terminals are corroded, spread, or physically damaged.
Replace the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor. If the sensor itself exhibits erratic resistance readings during testing, fails the wiggle test, or does not conform to the manufacturer's temperature-resistance specifications, it is likely faulty.
Clean corrosion from electrical terminals. Even minor corrosion on the IAT sensor terminals or within the harness connector can introduce intermittent high resistance, leading to incorrect signal interpretation by the PCM. Use a specialized electrical contact cleaner and a small brush to thoroughly clean all affected terminals.
